Max Frost- White Lies

“Yes I been picking up really sketch vibes
And I keep looking over at your side”

Nutritional Information:

Talk about talent. Frost is a young multi-instrumentalist from Texas that wrote this brilliant song and played ALL the parts. He has an amazing soulful style that plays off of pop/hip-hop influences. This song is catchy, musically interesting and just really blew me away at the first listen. Coming out of Austin, Texas, Frost has been playing music since he was really young and his broad range of skills is really shown off here and in his much slower and darker track Nice and Slow.

Bipolar Sunshine- Rivers

“Been low, but I’ve been higher”

Nutritional Information:

So it starts out sounding like an indie remix of Taio Cruz’s Dynamite but then takes a turn for something much much better. Bipolar Sunshine popped up on our radar after his genius song Fire started gaining some buzz recently. This release goes a total different direction and has got us expecting really great things in the future from the Aesthetics EP dropping June 17th. With an upbeat feel, BP keeps up the heartfelt and emotional subject matter and again pairs it with some amazing musicianship and a catchy refrain. Adio Marchant is blending together hip hop and indie rock and we’re loving every beat of it.

The Dear Hunter- Whisper

“I think that we’ve all made our gravest mistakes
On the greatest intentions that we’re too stubborn to let go”

Sometimes simple is better, and The Dear Hunter proves that to us with this little indie pop gem.  Spacey guitars layered over rolling drumlines powered by Casey’s vocals make this somewhat typical indie song become something really special.  Whisper’s lyricism focuses on the mistakes made by youth, how we learn from them, and what our future looks like.  It’s a beautiful song that has an explosive chorus that will keep your head bobbing all day.

Sir Sly- Found You Out

“Oh I guess I found you out”

Nutritional Information:

Sir Sly is back with a hot new track. This one keeps their characteristic “sly-fi” sound with dark indie tones but plays around with pace, making for a really dynamic indie-pop track. The drums really change the sound of the song, being filtered, full, or reversed at different times to drive the track. The verses have a really playful acoustic guitar line that is really cool with their hovering synths and distorted drums. Check this one out and get those lyrics stuck in your head.

Flavor of the Week Mixtaste #6: Sushi

mixtapealbumcover6

We’ve been sitting on this one for a while without writing it up but better late than never so here is our 6th mixtaste coming at you! This one (as seems to be a trend lately) has a pretty fun summery feel overall and includes some amazing talents. Check it out!

Carousel- Another Day: pure electro-pop bliss

YOUNG GALAXY- Pretty Boy: indie-pop with a quick synth that has us feeling like we’re floating off their upcoming Ultramarine.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis- Thrift Shop (Epoch Remix): Macklemore has long been one of our favorite rappers and we’re so happy that he’s finally getting attention. Many have attempted remixes of his mega-hit Thrift Shop and here Epoch kills in with a huge dubstep remix that keeps the whole song and adds some edgy EDM frills.

Tove Lo- Habits: out of Stockholm, Tove Lo reminds us of a dark and freaky Marina. Her voice and pop beats are blowing us away

Jinja Safari: Oh Benzo!: we love a lot of Australians and Jinja Safari are some of our favorites. Their sound incorporates so many different elements and instruments to create their indie-world vibe

Neulore: Shadow of a Man: coming out of Nashville, Neulore is a strong modern folk outfit with a real positive tone. more from them this year and a free EP for now!

Half Moon Run- Call Me in the Afternoon: just coming off of supporting Mumford and Sons on tour these Canadians produce some great indie folk-pop with really catchy vocals

The Tallest Man On Earth- Weather of a Killing Kind: modern folk defined in a man. so excited to see him at Outside Lands

SWIM DEEP- She Changes the Weather: self described “Birmingham boys making sun kissed noise” – a look at one of our greatly anticipated indie albums of the summer

Misun- Promise Me (prod. by Nacey): totally dope vocals on this indie/electro jam. check out more and a free download!

HAERTS- Wings (Wildcat! Wildcat! Remix): a pairing of two great indie acts, Wildcat! Wildcat! adds some big swelling synths to HAERTS’ original

KYLE- Fruit Snacks (prod. Beni Haze): we discovered him after his feature on Martin Solveig’s latest and the Ventura rapper’s chilled out flow has got us listening to more. free

The Hood Internet- Ignition (1901 Remix): You may have heard it at Coachella, but the Hood Internet has got the produced version here for free download to finish off the mixtaste

Work Drugs- West Coast Slide

“Why you wanna run forever?”

Nutritional Information:

Yesterday was my first time driving on PCH in almost a year, and this new single by Work Drugs was the perfect accompaniment. Last summer License to Drive fueled my summer cruising and West Coast Slide  is setting itself up to do the same this summer. These guys are from Philly but define themselves by saying “Work Drugs makes music specifically for dancing, boating, yachting, sexting, and living. Please enjoy please.” With a grooving drum beat, playful guitar lines and some real cool swelling synths, Work Drugs has recreated their smooth indie-pop style that channels the waves and ocean breeze. Free download!

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis- Can’t Hold Us ft. Ray Dalton (Official Video)

“So we put our hands up like the ceiling can’t hold us”

He just can’t fail. Macklemore is back with the incredible video for his latest single Can’t Hold Us. This one goes from the snow with wolves, to a pirate ship, to riding a camel in the city, to a mobile living room, to sky diving. Mack’s image is huge and this video is gonna keep perpetuating his legend. In love.

New Navy- Regular Town

“You came from the underground, I came from just another regular town”

Nutritional Information:

I’m moving back to California from Switzerland in 5 days, New Navy’s tropical indie-pop has got my soul singing. Regular Town is the first single that these Aussie boys have released since their Uluwatu EP, and we’re really hoping that they’ll be putting out a full length sometime soon! The guys are from a small beach town outside Sydney and initially had a dark indie sound but after a vacation to Bali, took on their awesome tropical groove. The chorus of this track with its synchronized bass line and steel drum create a super fun vibe. Whistling, clapping, ukulele, and a bunch of fun instruments have got us picturing a big beach bonfire welcoming in the summer. Buy this single on iTunes!

Kid Cudi- Red Eye (feat. Haim)

“Things get crazy and I fear I’m losing my mind”

Nutritional Information:

Cudi’s new album leaked and a few tracks have been trickling out. This one particularly caught my ear with Haim being majorly featured on the track. The group of sister’s has been one of our favorite acts to see rising up this past year and hearing them on a track like this is pretty cool. This one is almost more of a Haim track featuring Kid Cudi. It’s chill indie vibe has got us really excited for the full Indicud album to drop. The tight production on this one was done by Hit-Boy, who also produced “Niggas in Paris”.
